Meaning of Organic
Organic has become a buzzword these days and everyone is talking about it. However, what does it really means and why is it being so popularized? The momentum about organic is demanding fresh and healthy foods that are grown the organic way which are not only healthy for the body but also for the environment.
Many studies over the years have highlighted the potential issues that have been the direct cause of pesticides found in the food we eat. This is the reason why scientists and general people are making the switch from regular food to organic food. Organic farming is a holistic approach that concentrates on growing the food in most healthy manner. The organic farmers work closely with the nature so that they can build healthy, fertile soil along with the naturally balanced ecosystem.
The organic farming has been recognized by the government and all the growers have to be accredited by the authorities before they can call their produce organic. All the products that are being marketed as organic are regulated by the standards as developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture or USDA. The farmers have to go throw a strict process of conformity with the standards before they can call themselves organic farmers.
Despite such strong regulations, there are still farmers that are organically producing vegetables but have not yet procured the necessary certification. This is the reason why the “know your farmer” adage has also gained equal traction so that the buyers can beware of the people that are selling uncertified veggies marked as organic.
When the people buy vegetables from the local farmer, it helps the environment as well as the food does not have to be transported to another location that reduces the carbon footprint.
